Sampling Date: October 9, 2004 Sample Collection: Don Fiene, Mark Phillips Analysis: Mindy Allen Macroinvertebrate Lyon Creek 2004 Macroinvertebrate McAleer Creek 2004 Both samples fall towards the high end of the "Poor" category, with McAleer scoring 22 and Lyon scoring 18. The BIBI scale is 10 - 50. Sobering results, but we should be careful about reaching conclusions until we get a little more perspective on what they mean, and how they compare with other urban stream results. Mindy suggests that maybe we didn't dig deep enough into the sediment in collecting the samples. We believe we followed the protocol, but it may well be true that our overall collection technique will improve as we get more practice. That may make a difference, but hard to imagine it making a dramatic difference. |
