Mission Statement LFP Website: State of our Streams (Part 1) Dec 2005 |
Stream monitoring is a great activity for anyone interested
in the health of our streams. This is a great opportunity for students
to get community service hours and have fun doing it.
Coming Up Next Recent Events
Saturday, July 24, 2010 9AM: Basic Water Quality Monitoring * Note date change: Changed from third Saturday to fourth Saturday for this month. We maintain a twice yearly testing schedule for basic
quality monitoring: typically the third Saturday in January and the third
Saturday in July. Please join us at the lower level of
the Lake Forest Park Town Center mall at 9:00. We are
usually done by 11:00. All are welcome! September/October 2010: BIBI Monitoring Event StreamKeepers will conduct its annual inventory of insects in
McAleer and Lyon Creeks on one Saturday in late September or early
October 2010. Insect collection will be done in teams, and training
will be provided. This activity consists of collecting aquatic insects
and other small organisms from small areas of the stream beds in
several locations. The samples collected will be analyzed by a trained
entomologist, with results available in several weeks. We follow a
process developed by a UW professor, which is technically known as BIBI
(Benthic Inventory of Biologic Integrity). About Us The Lake Forest Park StreamKeepers is a group of volunteers who keep an eye on stream quality and help educate on proper care to ensure continuing health and improvement to the quality of the streams within the City and McAleer/Lyon creek watershed in Lake Forest Park, Washington. We conduct regular stream testing, including chemical, fecal coliform, and biological integrity (BIBI). Join Us: If you would like to get involved beyond water testing, there are 5 or 6 of us, the "Steering Committee", who meet with some regularity to discuss StreamKeeper goals and plan activities. We could use your help. Email one of the contacts for more information. |
